Race City Festival

Visited the Race City Festival today! Formally known as the Lake Norman Festival. It was quite a different experience from the "old times" of actually working the festival at a Race City Booth. The only thing that was familiar was the Rain!! Some of you know what I am saying!!

Anyway enjoyed acro-fitness as always and now convinced that this might be the "one thing" I can get Kyndall interested in:)
Check Spelling
We took Zachary too. Now that was a hoot. Of course ran into a bunch of friends, ate a pretzel(with mustard of course), and most of all satisfied my addiction. The real reason I attend these type of events at all..

Free Pens and Pencils!
Seriously, Every year I collect enough pens, rulers, and pencils to furnish our home school for the entire year! It's why I go in the first place.
Just looked through old pics to find Lake Norman Festival pictures and couldn't find a single one!
end note: I have also realized how much I like blogging and How posting on face book has rendered me incapable of typing complete sentences, using way too many !!! and :)

It doesn't snow alot around here! Last night we received a wonderful 5+ inches of snow. The last time we had a snow event this grand Kyndall was a baby! So last night around 10:00 pm we suited up and headed outside to play! It was beautiful and quiet! The snow was falling in huge flakes. We had a snowball fight, took a walk together, and then built a Lewis Snowman. We had such a fun time, saying out unitil around midnight!! Then we came in and warmed up with Hot Chocolate and even made banana splits ( A strange family radition when it snows)We all had a wonderful time. Then this morning we went out again!!! I think between the 4 of us we created about 3 loads of extra laundary. What a fun event for us.

Apple Festival

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Yummy! The girls and I headed out to the Lincoln Co Apple Festival over the weekend. Mark was working a half day on Saturday so he missed all the fun. Lots of crafts and booths. Although we love apples (especially the Carmel ones) we went for the Library book sale.
Hardcover 1.00
Paperback .50
Magazines .10

I was looking for magazines. I love them. National Geographic Kids, National Geographic Explorer, Zoobooks, Ranger Rick, Odyssey
Any way NO SUCH LUCK
Not a single magazine to be found. However we did snag some books on the 50 states, American History, homeschool, a bunch of chapter books for my animal loving Kyndall, and our best find...over 150.00 dollars worth of piano music for 1.50. Love songs, Classic Rock, Country, Broadway Hits, Ballads, Oldies, Gospel, and more. Highlight of my day!
We spent 5.00
We ate carmel apples of course, walked a couple of miles, and worshiped with some young teen praise bands. Laughed at all the parents in line with their kids paying 2.00 per ticket to ride on a 3 minute kiddie ride. Nice day with the girls.
Opps I almost forgot. Came home with all the loot. You know... pens, pencils, plastic cups, sports bottles, jar openers, bookmarks, calenders, note pads, and frisbees.
Okay we have many frisbees from events just like these. However Sarah and Kyndall think they make perfect catfood dishes when turned upside down.

Carowinds

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Pictures from last weekends trip to carowinds. Mark, the girls, and I went with my Mom and Dad, Amanda, and Toby and Lisa. Can you believe my parents rode every coaster they could find! It was so much fun. The park was virtually empty. We rode roller coasters over and over without even getting off! I think because of Hurricane Gustav, the forecast said lots of rain. It changed at the last minute. No rain just a nice cool breeze and 82. It was a lot of fun.

Green

Friday, September 5, 2008

I bought this plant the week we moved into our new house 5 years ago. It was a small little kitchen green plant that grew like a weed. We wrapped it around the tops of our cabinets, hung pieces from ceiling hooks, and it kept growing, and growing until it was a jungle in our kitchen and Mark could stand it no more. So he took her down. When we took it outside and stretched out the vines it was 14 feet long!! After some trim backs, Mark replanted my green friend and wrapped her around a stake. I must say my kitchen looks so white!
I love green plants!! They brighten my day and remind me of life in the winter. I hope my friend survives the dramatic change!!

Back to the Basics

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Pencils, Pens, Notebooks, Erasers, Book Covers, Crayons, Agendas, Sharpeners, Folders, Paper, Glue, Scissors, Backpacks, highlighters, Math Manipulates, Sticky notes, Journals, Planners............. If you are anything like me to love to shop for school supplies! My excitement as a child about school supplies has not diminished as I have grown! I love looking at and bringing home this stuff!!! Did I mention Pens...in every color especially the gel ones: metallic and pearlized.
Whether you have kids in Public School, Charter School, Private School, Or choose to Home school Like we have...no doubt you are gearing up for a new school year.
We review our progress, plot a course of study for the new year, encourage our children to put forth their best effort, set goals and rewards, plan field trips, re-connect with our support groups, stock up on lunch foods, underwear.....our preparation to educate our children Is a top Priority.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being and with all your might. And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
Let's ask ourselves this question:
What are we doing as a family to encourage a lifelong love and devotion for Jesus Christ within our children?
As we gear up for a new school year lets not forget the spiritual education of our children. Often families send or take their children to church and expect that they will learn all they need to know about God in a vibrant environment created by an awesome staff of Children's Ministry Volunteers. Although I believe this is a great addition in our families life...I know God has placed the responsibility for Teaching our children about Him into the hands and hearts of My Husband and Myself..
As we gear up this year for Godliness...Do You have a plan?
Let's remember to fill the hearts of our children with Gods word!
At what level is your child in their spiritual development? Are there devotional books, Bible studies, Story Books, Family Devotionals, that you may want to purchase as you begin to plan this year?
Are you encouraging your children to "Hide Gods word in their hearts" through scripture memory.
For more excellent information on Gearing up for Godliness check out this post at Sit A Spell.
I would love to hear about your families plan!

In a Field of Flowers

Thursday, July 24, 2008

My Mom just called to tell me of a beautiful dream she had tonight of my sister Michele. Most of you who read this blog know that my sister Shelly entered Heaven last year after a Brain infection caused by a tumor. God gave us 8 years with her after doctors said she wouldn't live six months. Numerous times God answered our prayers with miracles of healing for her. She spent her years devoted to foreign missions in Kenya and Romania.
Mom said she was sleeping and she heard my sisters clear beautiful voice.
"Mommy" she said. "Come and play with me in a field of flowers."
She was dressed in tennis shoes and sweatpants (typical Shelly) and they ran and played, and danced in the flowers. "I love you Mommy" my sister said just before my Mom woke up.
I listened to my Mom share her dream. We cried, and then laughed at my sister running around in Heaven in a pair of sweatpants and grungy tennis shoes!
I am grateful for the dream. Thank you Lord for Eternal Life and a field of flowers.
